Generative AI Policy

The Journal of Earth and Marine Technology (JEMT) allows the use of generative AI tools only for limited support tasks, such as language improvement or formatting. AI tools must not be used to generate the core scientific content of a manuscript.

1. Disclosure Authors must clearly disclose any use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or similar) in the preparation of their manuscript. Disclosure should be stated in the Acknowledgments section.
Example: “This manuscript used generative AI for language editing. All content was reviewed and approved by the authors.”

2. Authorship and Responsibility Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the submitted work.

3. Prohibited Uses Authors must not use AI tools to:
- fabricate or manipulate data
- generate scientific conclusions or interpretations
- create false or unverifiable references

4. Editorial Use The journal may use AI-assisted tools for auxiliary editorial purposes (e.g., plagiarism checks or language screening). All editorial decisions are made by human editors.

5. Ethical Compliance All AI use must comply with JEMT’s Publication Ethics and plagiarism standards. Undisclosed or inappropriate use may result in rejection or retraction.

This policy is informed by guidance from COPE and WAME and will be updated as standards evolve.
