Emisi Karbon dari Pengelolaan Sampah: Studi Kasus UPN Veteran Jawa Timur

Abstract


Pengelolaan sampah di perguruan tinggi memiliki peran penting dalam menekan emisi Gas Rumah Kaca (GRK). Penelitian ini mengkaji emisi karbon dari proses pengelolaan sampah di Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) Veteran Jawa Timur pada tahun 2024. Permasalahan utama yang diangkat adalah tingginya kontribusi pembuangan ke tempat pembuangan akhir (TPA) terhadap total emisi dan rendahnya tingkat daur ulang di lingkungan kampus. Metodologi yang digunakan meliputi pengumpulan data sekunder dari catatan internal universitas mengenai timbulan, komposisi, dan volume sampah yang didaur ulang maupun dibuang ke TPA. Perhitungan emisi dilakukan menggunakan faktor emisi dari World Resources Institute (WRI) yang mencakup CO₂, CH₄, dan N₂O dari tahapan transportasi, pembuangan, dan daur ulang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa total emisi karbon dari pengelolaan sampah kampus mencapai 15.315,48 kg CO₂eq/tahun, dengan pembuangan ke TPA menyumbang lebih dari 99% emisi, sedangkan transportasi dan daur ulang memiliki kontribusi relatif kecil. Temuan ini menegaskan perlunya strategi pengurangan sampah ke TPA melalui pengolahan sampah organik dan peningkatan efisiensi daur ulang di kampus.
